We are closely monitoring the Iron Fire burning in Juab and Tooele Counties, as well as the Cottonwood Fire burning in the Fishlake National Forest near Beaver and Piute Counties. While these fires have prompted mandatory evacuations for nearby areas, the majority of Utah’s recreational areas, state parks, and national parks remain open and ready to welcome patrons.

We encourage everyone in the area to follow official orders and respect all road closures so that emergency responders and heavy equipment can safely access the front lines.

Authorities have confirmed that the Cottonwood Fire is human-caused, which serves as a stark reminder of the extreme fire danger currently present across our state. Whether traveling or recreating, everyone in Utah must take wildfire prevention seriously.

We remind all travelers to practice responsible recreation by adhering to the following fire safety rules:

• Heed Restrictions: The entire state of Utah is currently designated as having high-to-extreme fire danger. Adhere to all local burn bans and fire restrictions.
• Campfire Safety: Many areas have fire restrictions. Never leave a fire unattended. Always make sure your fire is completely doused with water and smothered with dirt before leaving.
• Vehicle Safety: Do not park a hot car or machinery in dry grass, even when pulling over on the side of the road.
• Drone Safety: Never fly drones near a wildfire. Drone activity can force the suspension of vital aerial firefighting operations.
• Fireworks: Consider foregoing the use of commercially available fireworks this season and attending professional fireworks displays, which are supervised by fire personnel.
