This outcome reflects the strong advocacy effort from across the vast representation of Utah’s tourism and hospitality industry.
We appreciate the partnership and leadership of our county elected officials and the Utah Association of Counties, whose opposition and coordinated efforts were instrumental in communicating the local government impacts of this proposal. Their engagement alongside the tourism industry demonstrated the broad-based concern surrounding this legislation.
During the floor debate, several comments were made that mischaracterized the tourism industry and the intent of our advocacy. We take those concerns seriously and will be engaging directly with those legislators to ensure they have accurate information and a clear understanding of our industry’s role in elevating local economies, supporting jobs, and advancing generational community investments.
We are especially grateful to those who contacted their House members (even multiple times as the bill evolved!) and helped educate fellow local stakeholders about the potential impacts. Your advocacy continues to demonstrate that when our industry shows up together, it matters.
